MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to promote, preserve, and enhance the integrity of the Lake Fayetteville Watershed through scientific evaluation, educational programs, and voluntary cooperation.
Hello friends of Lake Fayetteville,
The Lake Fayetteville Watershed Partnership speaker series this year will be held via Zoom.
The second speaker will be Travis Chaney, Illinois River Watershed Partnership Restoration Specialist.
THURSDAY, July 9, 6:00--7:30 PM (scroll down for Zoom link)
About the talk: For the past year, Illinois River Watershed Partnership has been reaching out to landowners upstream of Lake Fayetteville and funding improvements to riparian buffers in the watershed. Travis will discuss recent projects and restoration practices, as well as describe the surprising pockets of unique plant communities that can still be found in the watershed.
Travis' talk builds on Sandi Formicas recent presentation which shed light on land use changes, existing riparian and natural features, and stream stability in the Clear Creek Watershed. Travis has been workinG on repairing some of the riparian zones that impact Clear Creek and Lake Fayetteville.
Lake Fayetteville was formed in 1949, when the upper section of the stream was dammed. Lake Fayetteville has experienced many issues resulting from a huge sediment load and excessive nutrients in its watershed. Last summer the lake had algal blooms which included blue-green algae which produce the toxin microcystin.
If you know others who might be interested, please forward this invitation.
See you on Zoom . . .
